Background
Nurturing Health: A Life-Course Approach to NCD Prevention in Nepal is implemented by Helen Keller International with support from the World Diabetes Foundation (WDF), in collaboration with the Family Welfare Division (FWD) and the Department of Health Services (DoHS). The project aims to strengthen the prevention, early detection, and management of hyperglycemia in pregnancy (HIP), including gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Adopting a life-course approach, the project integrates NCD prevention into maternal health services while promoting healthy lifestyle practices.
Position Overview
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the overall coordination, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of activities under the Nurturing Health initiative in Lumbini Province. Serving as the primary liaison among the Province Health Director (PHD), Health Offices, municipalities, local stakeholders, the Implementation Partner, and the central project team, the coordinator will ensure the timely and quality delivery of planned interventions.
In addition to provincial responsibilities, the coordinator will provide technical support to implementation partner. This role requires close collaboration with the PHD, relevant government agencies, and development partners to enhance coordination, optimize resource utilization, minimize duplication, and foster synergies for improved maternal and newborn health outcomes.
Functional Relationships
Under the direct supervision of the Team Leader – Nurturing Health, the Coordinator will be responsible for managing the Nurturing Health project in the assigned districts. This role requires subject-matter expertise, along with strong coordination, networking, representation, and communication skills.

Represent Helen Keller International at the provincial and district level, maintaining strategic relationships with stakeholders, including external development partners.

Program Planning and Implementation
- Provide technical support to the implementation partner in planning and implementation of project activities at the provincial district and municipal levels in alignment with the Nurturing Health project framework.
- Support the integration of HIP related interventions into maternal health services.
- Ensure quality assurance in the delivery training, screening, counseling, referral, and follow-up services.
- Facilitate coordination meetings, review meetings, and orientations to strengthen implementation and stakeholder alignment.
- Provide technical guidance for rolling out standardized HIP protocols to service providers including private health sectors.
- Support the implementation partners in organizing orientation, training, and capacity-building activities for frontline workers.
- Promote the adoption and use of evidence-based tools, guidelines, and protocols for the prevention of NCDs and maternal health service improvement.
- Serve as the provincial focal point and provide technical support for representation in coordination meetings, technical working groups, and forums at provincial and district levels.
- Strengthening collaboration with the Health Office, municipals, health facilities, private health sectors, and other relevant stakeholders to enhance resources mobilization and project implementation.
- Provide technical assistance for tracking project indicators, ensuring data quality, collecting quality data, and supporting timely reporting.
- Support documentation and dissemination of success stories, case studies, lessons learned, and challenges to inform adaptive management.
- Conduct regular field visits with the implementation partner to assess implementation quality and provide technical feedback.
- Provide technical support to ensure project visibility in coordination with local governments and partner agencies.
- Strengthen knowledge management and support the effective use of IEC/BCC materials related to HIP awareness at the community level.
- Provide technical guidance for district and municipalities -level advocacy to improve service access and utilization for at-risk pregnant women.
Represent Helen Keller International at the provincial and district level, maintaining strategic relationships with stakeholders, including external development partners.
Required Qualifications/Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field and at least 5 years of relevant experience in INGOs; or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in INGOs managing maternal health, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), or nutrition programs at the district or provincial level.
- Experience working with government health systems, preferably within Lumbini Province.
- Comprehensive understanding of maternal health, including conditions such as hyperglycemia in Pregnancy /Gestational Diabetes Mellitus
- Demonstrated skills in coordination, supervision, facilitation, and reporting.
- Demonstrated experience and successful track record of:
- Providing technical support to government and Partner organizations related to maternal health and NCD
- Coordinating with government, multiple stakeholders, and partners at the federal or provincial levels
- Communication skills:
- Good coordination and facilitation skills
- Good documentation and presentation skills in Nepali and English languages.
